Why I fell in love with Marvel Champions.....

Here it is in all it's glory my current favourite game (well it is this or Forgotten Waters, I keep going backwards and forwards on this) that is taking up most of my play time:

So why do I enjoy Marvel Champions so much?

I love Marvel movies and have always been a fan of Hulk and Spiderman since I was a young child. I was often stuck in doors due to issues with Asthma so would often imagine I was Hulk smashing my way through the local town. So for me this is an easy win and did not have to do much work to win me over. This may take a bit longer to enjoy if you aren't a Marvel fan. However, I believe that even people who are not fans of Marvel will enjoy this game as it is so well put together and so much fun!

The Hero classes all play differently, can be customised like crazy and even then the games are all different depending on how the cards come out. It's like going in to a Candy Shop and realising that you've got a golden ticket for Wonker's factory. When you start down the Marvel Champions 'rabbit hole' there's just more and more and more to do and they are constantly releasing new content (Venom coming out soon). It's almost endless. You can even change the enemy decks to contain different threats also making replayability go through the roof.

There are cards which impede damage or threat token removal to spice things up even further. These can also affect your enemies too. Tough, stunned and confused are all quite annoying if you do not have the cards to deal with them....cough, cough.....Hulk (>_<).

The choices you make are really thinky and feel really impactful. "Do I use my good attack cards to play a card that gets me more resources in the future?" or "do I discard the resource card to do an attack now?". You feel in complete control and if you lose you feel like there is a better way to do things next time. The system takes a little getting used to and is very tactical. If you like trying to be clever and then feeling clever when your plan works you need to get this game. Oh and it is just as good, if not at its best, when played solo where you can either play with one hero or two when you know the rules well. Controlling 2 heroes at once can be a bit hectic though with lots going on to control but, I find this to be enjoyable as it also allows the player not currently focused on by the enemy to heal without putting the enemy in to the threat mode which can be hard for some heroes to deal with. Great to play when alone e.g. during this pandemic!!

So you are on a game ban from your partner. WHACK ON THE CAMO PAINT AND GO BUY IT. DO IT NOW, NOT LATER FOOL!!

There will be a review coming but, I still want to get some more heroes and enemies to play with to give a more well rounded overall score and analysis.

So for now, I'll see you at the game table!
